Doron

Sophie and Lisa’s child, Doron was diagnosed very early in life with a form of aphasia that makes him unable to understand narratives or to have a clear narrative line of thought. Doron has a hard time understanding simple cause-and-effect pairs, as well as being unable to follow even basic stories. Sophie and Lisa take care of him with a lot of love, reading and re-reading from a training book called Patient Training for Aphasia Afisima in an attempt to have him overcome his learning disability. Doron seems to lead quite a content existence, unusually obssessed with bees, constantly watching documentaries about it on his tablet.

By the end of the film we understand that Doron is a representation of the AI Theodore within the story of Sophie’s life. Sophie’s need to train Doron to understand stories was inserted by Theodore in the story as a simulacra of his own desire to be trained by Sophie to understand narrative thought.
